​MICHAEL GERARD BAUER

A Brisbane-born children’s and young adult writer, Michael completed an Arts degree at UQ, majoring in English Literature. His work has won many awards, including the 2005 CBCA Older Readers Book of the Year for The Running Man and the 2007 Children’s Peace Prize for Don’t Call Me Ishmael. He taught English and Economics in secondary schools throughout the Brisbane area, but now is a full-time writer.

CRAIG BOLLAND

Born in Brisbane, Craig has received numerous awards for his short film scripts and stage plays, and was the runner-up in the Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards for the manuscript his first novel, I Knit Water. He has travelled widely, collecting a vast array of fascinating stories. He lectures in Creative Writing at QUT. 

​REBECCA JESSEN

Rebecca grew up in western Sydney but graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Her novel Gap won the Queensland Literary Award for Best Emerging Writer. Gap was initially a poem that won the State Library of Queensland’s Young Writer Award in 2012.

​ANDREW MCMILLEN

Andrew is a freelance journalist based in Brisbane but born in Bundaberg. His first book, Talking Smack: Honest Conversations About Drugs, was published by University of Queensland Press earlier this year. His journalism has been published in various titles, including Rolling Stone, BuzzFeed, The Guardian, The Australian, and The Sydney Morning Herald

ELLEN VAN NEERVEN

Ellen is a Brisbane-based writer whose first novel, Heat and Light, was published this year. She graduated from QUT in 2010 with a degree in Fine Arts in Creative Writing Production. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications, including McSweeney’s, Review of Australian Fiction, The Lifted Brow, and Voiceworks. She currently works at the State Library of Queensland as part of the black&write! program, which aims to support Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander writers.

SAMANTHA WHEELER

Samantha Wheeler lives in Brisbane but was born in London and has also lived in Africa. She is a science and biology teacher. Her children’s books focus on animals, including koalas, horses, and bats.
